I love this knife and it has held up well for 8 years or so. I truly use it for something everyday. The spring clip has fallen off somehow, which is disappointing, but otherwise the knife has held up great!I've had these for 7 years. Well, I lost my first pair last year and had to re-buy. These are great, with 4 screw driver bits, a durable blade, and nice compact size, I couldn't find anything better when searching for a replacement for my lost one.The Leatherman Skeletool is awesome--easily the best blend of quality, portability, and performance that you're going to find in a tool having a knife, pliers, and driver. It covers the essentials of casual, day-to-day tool needs, yet it's smaller and lighter than expected--enough that I routinely forget it's in my pocket, even when wearing semi-dress pants (business casual attire) for work. People who obsess over having more tools may be disappointed, but those who prefer serious utility will appreciate that NONE of the mainstay tools incorporated into the Skeletool feels like a compromise. Simply put, they all work well and especially with regard to the blade, feel significantly more useful than the undersized or poorly designed tools found on many other multitools.About the tools...The knife blade is large enough and convenient enough to access one-handed that it can easily replace a standalone folding knife without feeling like a disappointing compromise that sacrifices functionality. Some will prefer the straight edge of the CX model over the combo edge (partly straight and partly serrated) on this standard version--and usually, I would too--but in this case, this is one of the better designed combo edges I've owned. There is enough straight edge to handle slicing. The blade is also thicker than the standard fare blade on other multitools, which is particularly refreshing. This knife doesn't just cut well; it feels durable. (That doesn't mean you should use it for prying, though! Respect the blade and use it properly!)The pliers are robust enough that you can use them for light to medium tasks without fear of breakage. (No, you shouldn't use them for extracting lag bolts from dense wood or something really heavy like that, but for common and likely daily chores that spring up unexpectedly, they are outstanding.) The pliers are also precise enough that I don't miss the tweezers on some of my Swiss Army knives and other multi-tools (the jaws match up so precisely that I've been able to use them to extract slivers nearly as easily as I can with a proper tweezers!). That was a very pleasant surprise, as a tweezers is one of the most frequently useful tools I use on any multi-tool.The driver and two included bits (a double-sided Philips size 1 and 2, and a double-sided flathead size small and medium) are well designed and work great for tightening/loosening the most common-sizes of screws, as well as some light scraping/prying (with the flathead bit). It's also possible to buy or make adapters that extend the functionality further by increasing the reach of the drivers or allowing you to attach standard 1/4" hex bits, although I find that entirely unnecessary and somewhat at odds with the minimalist intent of this tool. Why get a Skeletool and then add bulk and weight? If you're going to do that, you should be looking at the Wave, Surge, Mut, or other more fully-featured multi-tools.In short, this is probably the single best-designed multi-tool in existence for daily pocket carry for most people. You'll always have a great blade, very good pliers/cutters, good bit driver, good bottle opener, and adequate scraper (using the square driver bit). The only glaring omissions that some people are likely to miss are a more robust and purpose-designed scraper/pry tool or possibly a scissors. A proper tweezers is usually top of list for me too, but so far, I've found the pliers actually provide almost as good utility because of how precisely the jaws come together at the tip (hopefully, that will remain the case over time). In short, for people wanting a lightweight, well-functioning multi-tool, this one is HIGHLY recommended. In my opinion, the only other worth comparing it with, if you want more tools, is the Juice S2, but I prefer the Skeletool.I've read a lot a reviews here and thought I'd leave my 2 cents...There's a reason I've carried the CX for 9-10 years as well as purchased another CX and this version for my wife. There are a few reasons I suppose, small form factor, has the essentials, I can operate everything single handed, and is relatively strong. We can call these the cons. While trying to push (not necessarily stab) through some thick plastic my thumb pressed the locking feature of the blade and it folded on my thumb (ouch). This only happened once ;)The pliers are pretty strong, hulk out on them in a twisting motion you'll snap a jaw off, hulk out on them without and you'll likely shear a pin off. How do I know? I fixed the pin by replacing it with nail or something like that and mushrooming it with a hammer/punch, some years later I did the twisting motion... Contacted leatherman and sent it in, I may have paid shipping but they sent me a brand new one.The design of the grip (for using pliers) leaves the screw driver bit digging into the (lower?) side of my palm, I have maybe medium size hands so if you have large hands I could see this being much more uncomfortable. I leave the #2 phillips installed all of the time when not using a flat head due to this.I wish I could convey the force required to break the pliers/shear the pin but I can't really do that. But I just did a test with how much force I would call "stop" or no more because you'll likely break something. Performed as such using my trusty calibrated hand strength I put a ruler on a bench with the one side of the pliers touching the bench and measured the deflection or travel of the other handle end pass closed and measured 1/4" before I thought that is probably maximum I would ever go. This takes a reasonable amount of force and is at the point in which if you're doing this in a real situation you should stop and get the proper tool for the job.Bottom line: This is not a heavy duty tool but a general purpose every day carry, it's awesome I use it on everything, but it has it's limitations. Maybe look and try out how I tested these and try to get the feel for when you should stop squeezing and get the right tool if you don't want the hassle of sending them in for repair.I had the Skeletool CX (which is the more expensive version with Carbon Fibre) for a number of years. These tools are indestructible, and the only good reason to ever replace one is if you loose it like I did.I opted for the stainless steel version this time because let's face it, the carbon fibre does nothing for the tool, and the only thing it makes lighter is your wallet. The Skeletool is a brilliant multitool for a simple reason - it's the tools you need, not the ones you don't. This is not some massive tool with every gadget under the sun stuck together where nothing works, everything on it works well. The knife is excellent, it comes very sharp out of the factory, and the steel has some thickness to it (none of the flex that you can get from a traditional swiss army knife). The key features of the knife for me are one handed opening, locking blade and quality steel. You can open this knife with a single hand, as the knife folds out when the tool is closed, not folded out. This means that the knife is accessible quickly when you need it, without faffing around with opening the tool out. The blade also locks open which I prefer, but bear in mind as far as I am aware this makes it illegal in the UK as a carry around on your person tool (I believe this applies to blades over a certain length OR blades that lock) however I prefer a solid locking blade. The precision of manufacture shows here when the blade locks open, as the blade opens it clicks locked, but then will not move even slightly back or forth, you'd think it was welded in place. The blade lock is a simple push to let the blade fold back in.The pliers. The pliers are really good pliers as far as pliers go - not good for a multitool, good for pliers. They are excellent. The tips of the pliers meet up accurately enough to use them as tweezers. The wire cutters work well, and the pliers are solid and stable. If you apply twisting force to the tips of the pliers (to try and stop the tips lining up) as hard as you can, they will not budge. I've stripped many wires with these pliers, and they are my favourite pliers even when given the choice of any of the many pairs in my toolbox. The screwdriver is another excellent implementation of a screwdriver. The tool includes two screwdriver bits, which are both double ended. This gives you two phillips bits ( X ) and two flathead bits. By having the second arm of the tool out at 90 degrees to the screwdriver you can apply a huge amount of torque to a screw with the driver. The only downside I've had here is I did lose the second bit, which tucks away in the body of the tool, when it fell out at some point. You can also buy a separate bit set that will fit this tool, giving you about 20 additional bits, however as much as I keep on planning to get them, I don't think I've ever needed them. The carabiner clip is more useful than it looks. Aside from quickly clipping to belt loops on your jeans, I used to use this when rigging stage lights to clip the tool to wires up in the rigging when I wasn't using it, to avoid dropping it. which is handy. It does a couple of other things like opening bottles, but in essence this is a collection of the tools you need on the go. If you often need the variety of tools found on some other bigger multitools, then you need to carry a toolbox with you instead. Crucially though the tools on this are excellent, not incapable, flimsy, borderline novelty tools like on many other multitools. It will probably be quite still out of the box, but it will loosen up in a few weeks with use.** Feb 2016**Having owned this tool for about a year, and the same tool previously, I was surprised when I mangled to break the pliers. To be clear about this, I still think Leatherman make the best quality multi tools on the market. One entire jaw of the pliers snapped clean off, and not at any of the narrow or what you would assume to be weak points. I can only assume this was a defect in the steel which lead to this weakness, but it has given me chance to test out the 25 year guarantee that Leatherman provide.Rather than use the Amazon guarantee, I sent this tool straight to the UK Leatherman warranty address (which I got off their website). I did not email or phone first, or fill out any forms, I simply sent it to them in an envelope with a note of my return address and contact details. The warranty information on their website says to include a description of the problem, but it was so obvious I didn't bother. Three days after posting it, I got a brand new tool in the post, at no charge. There was no fuss about it, no delay, no questioning if I had been using the tool in some kind of inappropriate way, they just dealt with it, which I really appreciate. With warranties I almost expect to have to battle with the company and justify myself, but as it turns out the final feature of this tool is a warranty that works exactly as you hope it would.Rather than being concerned about the quality of Leatherman tools, this has just cemented my view that they are the best brand tool to buy, because if for some reason their very high build quality does fail, they have an excellent warranty to take care of the problem. If you don't have a leatherman and don't need every tool under the sun this is the most inexpensive and lightest one you can buy. Took with my from London to Singapore. The knife is super sharp the multi screw tool is useful and I used the pliers on a few occasions to repair bike parts or do things like open taps that had their heads removed on public beaches for showers. It's truly so useful for even more reasons when you're not travelling. Get one!I already have a Leatherman Charge tool and love the quality of its design and construction. The Skeletool has less to offer in terms of options and versatility but is much lighter and seems to share the same build quality as its pricier sibling. It also reminds me of the alien from the "Alien" movie in how it folds away.If I'm ever caught in a sticky situation I hope I have one of them with me.Ok...I absolutely love and trust weatherman products (own a few already) and now it's the time to praise the designers. Well done guys, this Skeletool is absolutely beautifully designed, tactical, the knife is razor sharp the pliers work beautifully as does everything else. I'm a wild camper and own various multitools but Leatherman is ALWAYS with me.It's not only from the best pocket tool creation team the world has seen, it's the best and most sensible tool to carry every day on your belt. It's basic, it's simple, it's light, it's perfectly made - It's brilliant. There is no extra fluff, just the right (extremely high) quality of amazing tooly goodness ready to wear on your belt. Buy it, I did!
